Colorado Takes Shattenkirk in 1st Round of NHL Draft
Shattenkirk, a four-year player for the Devile' Youth, played the last two seasons with the US National Team Development Program. Atlantic Youth Hockey League Coach-In-Chief John DiNorcia, who coached Shattenkirk as a Bantam with the Devils, was very pleased to see his former player selected. "We always knew that Kevin had character. He comes from a quality family and always had an innate ability to make everyone around him better. "His game really took off when he went to the NTDP. It was really a case of talent meeting opportunity," said DiNorcia. DiNorcia also praised Shattenkirk's leadership ability, which was recognized in Ann Arbor early on. "Anyone who knows Kevin was not shocked when he was named captain of the U18 team this past season." Just 18,
Shattenkirk is no stranger to big games. He won a national championship
with the Devils' Youth Pee Wees under coach Jim Elia in 2002, and earned
a bronze medal with DiNorcia's Bantam team in 2003. The midget teams he
played for under Chad Dlugolecki were national caliber as well. Congratulations to following teams for success in their Thanksgiving tournaments ! What a weekend for the Devils Youth Hockey Club!
