SKATE-A-THON

The New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey Club would like to extend our most sincere thanks to Cooper Fallek, a long-time Special Hockey volunteer and student at Millburn High School who organized our First Annual Benefit Skate-A-Thon to benefit the NJ Daredevils. The Skate-A-Thon was held on Saturday, March 19 at South Mountain Arena and was attended by dozens of people who came out to offer their support.

Special thanks also goes to our sponsors: Master Pizza in Livingston for donating pizza for the skaters, Non-Stop Hockey for donating free rental skates to those who needed them, and especially to the Terminal Hockey Foundation for their generous donation.

The Terminal Hockey Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization formed in 2001 whose purpose is to raise money for worthy causes through the sport of ice hockey. They put on an annual Charitable Ice Hockey Event, where players from the NHL as well as local adult players participate in a 24-hour marathon hockey game to raise money for charities such as the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and Green Chimneys.

For more information about the Terminal Hockey Foundation, please visit their website www.TerminalHockey.com, email them at info@TerminalHockey.com, or call their offices at 914-238-1749.

2ND ANNUAL GOLF OUTING A DRIVING SUCCESS
New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey Club’s second annual golf outing at Black Bear Country Club was, once again, a fun and successful event. A wide variety of teams were represented, and this year we were joined by Devils ace John Madden and former Devil captain Bruce Driver for the 18 hole outing. Former Devil and current Devils radio color man Randy Velishek also helped out behind the scenes. As the teams enjoyed a great buffet lunch, Bruce Driver gave a motivational and educational speech on hockey, student athletics, and life.
Both John and Bruce were very patient and gracious, talking with outing attendees and posing for pictures. We cannot thank them enough for their involvement and support of our players and our Club, and we hope to see them again next year.
The Devils Youth Hockey Club would also like to thank all of our generous sponsors for this year’s outing. Hole-in-one Sponsorships were provided by Brunner Dodge and Cruise One, and the list of other sponsors includes: Ghiorsi & Sorrenti Inc., I.D. Clothing, Betson Enterprises, Allied Building Supplies, Distinctive Art Interiors, Harsimus Cove Realty, The Krauter Family, Monterey Fund Inc., Jersey Mortgage Company, New Jersey Devils, The Smigelski Family, Better Pak Container Corp., Georgeve Sanitary Supply Corp., The Kepler Family, Summit Confident, LLC., and Valley National Bank.
We would also like to thank the volunteers who donated countless hours to help with this event, speaking with sponsors, planning the day’s activities, registering golfers, and supervising the golf course throughout the morning. Specifically, we would like to extend our gratitude to Scott Haines, Kim Kirk, Elizabeth Ann Lander, Donna O’Meara, Michael and Doreen Szymczak, Patrick Yannotta and Mark Znutas. We realize the outing would not be possible without your generosity and commitment, and we sincerely thank you.

USA HOCKEY FESTIVAL LEADS TO NATIONAL TEAM FOR DEVILS ALUMNI
The New Jersey Devils Youth Hockey Club would like to congratulate two very special players, Chris Atkinson and Greg Squires. Both players participated in the 1988 festival at St. Cloud University in Minnesota for the Atlantic District, posting a 5-0-1 record and a first place finish. Chris and Greg were both selected for the USA Hockey National Team Development Program for this upcoming year, so it’s off to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the pair, to face the next challenge in their young hockey careers. They’ve made our Club proud so many times in the past, now it’s time to make our country proud.

BEST OF LUCK TO DEVILS YOUTH ALUMNI
Best of luck to Devils Youth alumni Christopher Atkinson (Salisbury Preparatory School) and Gregory Squires (Brunswick School) at the National Team Development Program. Christopher and Greg will be in Ann Arbor, Michigan playing for the 17 and under national team. As a freshman this season, Christopher became the second player in Salisbury School history to amass over fifty points. Gregory, also a freshman, led the Brunswick school varsity ice hockey team in scoring in the 2003 – 2004 season. This program is for the elite 20 players in the entire United States. It is a major accomplishment for both boys and we at the Devils are very proud.

PEEWEE B TAKES SILVER AT THE ICE HOUSE
Hackensack, NJ – The NJ Devils Youth Peewee B team won silver at the Ice House Thanksgiving Touranment 2003. Though the tournament started off on a sour note with a loss to Nassau County, the team was able to regroup and make it to the championship game. Goals by Ryan Bergen (assisted by Forrest Seaman) and Dylan Moran led the team to a 2-1 victory over the Hudson Valley Polar Bears in the semifinals, putting them into the championship game. The championship game started off with Nassau County storming out to a 3-0 lead, at which time they thought they had the game in hand. But the Devils were not done yet. Coach Todd Walter rallied the troops to come back and score 2 goals in the 3rd. Good goaltending by Nick Solari and very good defense held Nassau scoreless in the 3rd. With time running out, the Devils pulled their goalie to try to push the game into OT, but despite 3 good scoring chances, time was not on their side. The final score: Nassau 3 – Devils 2.

DEVILS YOUTH ALUM NAMED HOCKEY EAST ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
New Haven, CT – Devils Youth Hockey alum Kevin Schaeffer, whose hat trick against Yale on November 30 made him, according to available records, the first Boston University Terrier freshman defenseman in school history to have a three-goal game, has been named the Hockey East Rookie of the Week. Schaeffer brought hats to the ice with his final goal at 19:10 of the second period. His shot, as was his second goal, came from the right point. It was a blistering shot that appeared to go through the legs of a Yale defenseman and beat the goalie to the far left corner of the goal.
